Borno APC Wants Sheriff to Contest A National Office

Members of the ball Progressives Congress, APC, in Borno state has called on the National Secretary of the parties Aspirants Forum (APCAF), Yusuf Sheriff, to vie a stake in the would-be National Working Committee (NWC)Mr Sheriff, who is a card-carrying member of the party in Borno is being encouraged to contest a key position in the forthcoming National Convention of APC expected to hold later on February 26, 2022. of the ruling political party.
Though the party supporters did not mention the office which they want the young politician to contest, The Humanitarian Times gathered he is being positioned to go for the National Youth Leader seat of the NWC. Coordinator of the APC Aspirants Forum, in Borno state, Grema Kyari said at a crowded press conference that the forum would be buying nomination forms for Mr Sheriff as soon as the sales commenced.
The callers listed several virtues of their preferred candidate even though none of them directly link with conflict-induced humanitarian crises faced by the state.
Mr Sheriff was thereby given 24 hours to declare his interest by accepting the call of his supporters which they dubbed as the ‘Call to Service’. The forum said Mr Sheriff has an impressive credential in politics especially his ability to help many youths in Borno and even the Northeast zone and other parts of the country to secure jobs and appointments at the National level.
The Forum said once Sheriff accepts the call to service the forum would liaise with other leaders to ensure he gets the nomination from any of the strategic positions zones to the northeast. Mr Kyari thereby solicited massive support for Mr Sheriff by calling on all “the leaders of APC and indeed, the entire stakeholders and party members” to support Sheriff.
“It is my singular honour on behalf of Borno State ruling All Progressives Congress Aspirants Forum (BOSAPCAF) to call on our distinguished National Secretary of the Forum, Hon Yusuf Sheriff comes out and aspire a position for an undisclosed position in NWC of our great party.
“Although, we are yet to disclose the position in which, the Forum want Sheriff to vie for, because, the Forum is waiting for the leadership of the APC come out with the zoning arrangements before a decision is taken.
“We, therefore, want Sheriff to declare his intention within 24 hours contest in the forthcoming National Convention of our great party slated to hold on 26th February 2022 in Abuja.
“I want to categorically declare that, the nomination forms for the post of NWC will be purchased to Sheriff by the Forum when the sales of the forms commence by the secretariat of the APC Caretaker Extra -Ordinary Convention Planning Committee on 14th February this year, as contained in the guidelines of the conventions earlier released by the party.
“This is because, the ‘Call to Service’ on Sheriff is necessary and apt, considering his contribution towards better the lives of our members, particularly APC youths. “It is on records that, Sheriff has secured an appointment for several APC supporters who have been placed in juicy appointment nationwide,”.

The group also said one of the most striking accomplishments of the Sheriff was his ability to organise all the aspirants in all the 36 States of Nigeria to meet and had dinner with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa during the runup to the 2019 general elections.
The group said they have confidence in Governor Mai-Mala Buni-led APC- Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee, while they reiterated their “unalloyed support and loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, to his predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the State APC Chairman, Ali Bukar-Dalori.
Two weeks ago, another APC group in Borno state drummed support for a young politician, Umar Shettima of the Nigeria Youth Parliament to contest the zonal youth leader office in the next APC convention.
