Exclusive: NSF Athletes share photos of filthy, unhygienic facilities at Benin Games Village camp

Repulsed athletes at the just started National Sports Festival holding in Benin, Edo state, have expressed concerns over possible threat to their health and wellbeing at games village camp.

The troops who were reacting to the state of poor hygiene at the facilities they are being camped, shared disturbing photos of the shabby state of their camp.

The athletes worried that they might fall sick at the end of the 10 days event should the organisers fail to address the situation.
The photos shared exposed how undeserving the accommodations allocated to them have been within the Campus of the University of Benin, has been.

“Since we arrive here it has been an awful experience for us,” said one of the athletes, who’s identity is being shielded for safety reason.

“Apart from breaching all COVID-19 rules we are forced to sleep five in each room. The toilet facilities are not a place to behold. We are being served food in dirty environment littered with all kind of plastic waste”

Another athlete lamented that with about 8000 contingents being hosted at the games village, “the use of facemask has not been enforced or adhered to by both officials and athletes.”
