Governor Zulum not shaken by impeachment rumor – Chief of Staff
Governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum, is not shaken by the alleged plot of impeachment by the State House of Assembly, his chief of staff, Professor Isa Husseini, said.
Professor Husseini said this on Sunday at the lunch of a magazine on the 9th Assembly of Borno state that was published by members of the Northern Borno students association (NBSA).
The Chief of staff who represented Governor Zulum at the Magazine lunch, which was attended by all members of the House of Assembly and those of the state executive council, emphasised that the two arms of government have always had a robust working relationship.
He said the lawmakers that he “knows”, are not “capable” of doing what they were being accused of doing.
“In the last five year’s, special efforts has been geared towards northern Borno and northern Borno will soon take it’s rightful place as the driver of education in the state,” he said.
“The 9th Assembly of Borno has done extremely well in terms of passing bills that has an unprecedented record.
“The relationship between the executive and state assembly is cordial and I Bn have never seen a House of Assemly working so closely with the executive in the history of Nigeria. Because I have worked with them, they are always in the government house to discuss with his exclency so I know what I am taking about.
“In term of what happened recently, it is most unfortunate, I know it is some mischief by someone who doesn’t know what he is doing, but just to cause a problem. That person will not succeed and he has not succeeded.
“P
So, I’ll let all the members of the state assembly that his excellency has not taken this (impeachment) thing seriously; he knows your calibre and he does not think anyone of you is capable of doing anything like this.
The Chief of staff urged the law makers to continue the support they have for the governor as Governor Zulum will not fail them and the people of the state.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Borno state House of Assembly, Abdulkareem Lawan, had informed the gathering that the lawmakers has dismissed the impeached rumor and ordered the security to fish out those behind it.
He added that “we called for an extraordinary session on Friday to condemn the rumour and also to pass a confidence vote on the Governor.
Last week, a tweeted message trended in the social media where it was alleged that some 23 out of the 28 members of the Borno state House of Assembly were plotting to impeach the governor over unsubstantiated irreconcilable differences. The tweeted post alleged the governor was saved from losing his job by the swift intervention of a former governor of Borno state.
