NEDC Provides 276,700 Textbooks to Orphanage Schools in Borno and Yobe

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has provided 276,700 textbooks and exercise books to orphanage schools and centers in Borno and Yobe states. 

The commission reported that the 3,910 pupils from the nine schools and centers were orphaned during the 13-year Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast. Borno State Coordinator of NEDC, Mohammed Umaru, distributed the learning materials yesterday in Maiduguri. 

Umaru said that the nine orphanage schools and centers included Future Prowess, which had the highest enrollment with 2,084 students, as well as NECT/TLC in Maiduguri with 346 pupils, Lafiya Sarari Learning Centre, Girl Child Concern with 355 enrolments, and the Maiduguri Special School in Lamisula with 250 pupils. 

The other four orphanages and schools in Sokoto and Kano had 351 enrolments. In addition, the NEDC provided support to three other foundations with 950 blankets and mats, 700 wrappers, and Shadda clothes, including Kano and El-Kanemi Orphanage School.
