Bauchi Federal Legislator stripped of royal title for breaching dress code
The emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, has suspended a Federal House of Representative member in the state, Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi, for alleged breach of dress code and disrespect to the monarch.
Rep Shehu who represents Bauchi local government at the Federal House of Representatives also holds the traditional title of ‘Wakilin Birnin Bauchi.
A letter announcing his suspension was issued by the secretary of Bauchi Emirate Council, Nasiru Musa Maidala, was made available to the press on Sunday.
The letter indicated that the Federal Legislator showed no respect for the Emir of Bauchi during a durbar session organised to commemorate the Eid celebration.
His offence was that he allegedly passed in front of the Emir while wearing a royal gown (Alkyabba) which is inconsistent to the norms and tradition of the monarchy.
Tradition demands that all title holders must remove their royal gowns immediately they come close to the Emir as a sign of respect, and superiority of the Emir.
