Breaking: Defence Minister, service chiefs storm Maiduguri

The minister of defence, Bashir Magashi (rtd) and other military service chiefs have just arrived Maiduguri, Borno state capital on “operational visit”.

The defence minister and his team arrived Maiduguri at about via a Nigerian Air Force plane.

Mr Magashi, a retired Major General, was accompanied by Lucky Irabor, the Chief of defence staff; Ibrahim Attahiru, the chief of army staff; and Isiaka Amao, the chief of air staff.

From the airport the top defense officials were driven in a military convoy to the headquarters Operation Lafiya Dole, which is the military command and where they were received by the Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Faruq Yahaya, a Major General.

As usual the press was excused to leave the conference room of the command and control center as the Theater Commander commenced briefing the minister and the service chiefs on the activities of troops under his command.

Though details of their visit has not been disclosed to the press, it is suspected that their presence at the Theater may not be uncommected with recent attacks in the northern Borno.
