Child Protection Law: Foundation Applauds Borno Governor

As Zulum signs the CPL into Law
A Maiduguri based nongovernmental organisation, Grow Strong Foundation (GSF), has commended the Borno state government for assenting to the child protection law recently passed by the state House of Assembly.
GSF said it is happy and extremely delighted by the good news which it said is a major victory for ⅞9all kids, especially the children’s parliament.
The group specifically hailed the Borno state Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, for the courage that enabled the child protection bill see the light of the day.
“The new law will provide legal context that recognizes the rights of children in the state to education, health and protection from all forms of abuses, Abba-Yusuf Tijjani, GSF Executive Director said in a statement shared with The Humanitarian Times.
GSF said the new state law is a huge success for the entire people of Borno State as well as partners who are working in the protection sector.
“The newly signed Borno state Child Protection law will now legally protect the right of these children, provide maximum punishment of the perpetrators and ensure they do not go scot-free as the law is here to protect the children of the state.
“I will use this medium to commend and congratulate the Borno state Government, Borno state house of assembly, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Women affairs and social development, UNICEF, CPSS members and other stakeholders who worked tirelessly to see that the Child Rights Act in Borno State comes to existence,” Mr Ttijani noted.

The Executive Director. said their Foundation had Since 2019, GSF been hosting the Co- leadership of the child protection sub-sector coordination alongside UNICEF which is chaired by the ministry of women affairs and social development.
“Our direct humanitarian response in child protection in emergency, Education in Emergency and advocacies have been changing narratives in the life over thousands of conflict affected children, families and institutions across Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States. Indeed, the assentment and implementation of this law, the protective atmosphere against any form of abuses and deprivation of rights of children in the state will be improve”,
GSF Program Manager, Mr Gambo enthused that the development “will drastically reduce the growing number of out of school children and provide easy access to justice for victims of abuses while strengthening the judiciary to prosecute and make deterrent examples out of perpetrators.
