PRIMARIES: Imam Concedes Defeat, Congratulates Jajari Who Wins Borno PDP Governorship Ticket

My dear brother, … congratulations….on your successful victory… As you prepare to take the responsibility of leading our great party, i wish to assure you of my friendship, commitment and sympathetic interest of the good people of Borno state…

– Imam

Leader of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and aspirant in the just concluded governorship primaries, Mohammed Alkali-Imam, has stolen the admiration of many people on Wednesday night when he conceded defeat and personally sent out a congratulatory message to his opponent, Mohammed Ali Jajari.

Imam contested against a presumed political underdog Ali-Jajari, who eventually won the  Borno state PDP governorship primaries.

The PDP governorship primaries committees announced that Jajari defeated his only opponent, Mohammed Alkali Imam in a keenly contested election.

Abdurrahman Bobboi, the chairman of the Governorship primaries said Mr Jajari polled 487 votes to defeat Mr Imam who scored 362 votes.
Jajari, a barely known face, came to limelight when he flooded the state with his governorship campaign billboard.

Until now, Mr Imam has since 2015 assumed the leadership of PDP in Borno state, having contested the governorship on the platform of the party twice. Many had wrongly forecasted a ridiculous defeat for Mr Jajari who was seen as a political neophyte, considering Mr Imam’s intimidating credentials as former local government chairman, former state chairman of a ruling party, many times Commissioner, two times governorship candidate, and a moneybag businesses tycoon.

Mr Imam, shocked many of his fans and those who thought he would be kicking over the result when he posted an unexpected congratulatory message to Mr Jajari whom he referred to as “His Excellency”.

Massage of congratulations to H E Mohammed Ali jajiri. My dear brother, please accept my warm congratulations on your successful victory at the just concluded PDP Gubernatorial primaries. As you prepare to take the responsibility of leading our great party, i wish to assure you of my friendship, commitment and sympathetic interest of the good people of Borno state. I promise to support and actively participate in all your electoral activities, to ensure your victory. May Allah guide, help and prosper our party and the nation. Congratulations your Excellency… I’m proud of you… God bless you and our party Sir! – Mohammed Imam

Mr Jajari, who is in his early 40s would be the sole challenger of the incumbent governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum, whose second term aspiration would be confirmed at the party’s primaries on Thursday, May 26.

It is hoped that Mr Jajari would add his voice during the days of political campaigns by bringing on board ideas on how he would tackle the current Boko Haram induced humanitarian crisis faced by millions of people in Borno state.
