UN Launches 2021 Humanitarian Response Plan for North-East Nigeria

The Government of Nigeria, the United Nations, and partners will jointly launch the 2021 Humanitarian Response Plan for north-east Nigeria. 

A media advisory shared with The Humanitarian Times indicated that the launch will be followed by a briefing and a Q&A session with participants and media representatives. 

The online event will hold on Tuesday 16 March 2021 at about 2.00-4.00 p.m.  

Giving a highlight of the 2021 Humanitarian Response Plan, the UN said “The Humanitarian Response Plan represents a collective vision for humanitarian action in 2021.”

“The appeal is approximately $1 billion and targets the 6.5 million most vulnerable people in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States who are facing growing needs due to the ongoing violence and the socio-economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. The plan is based on assessed needs and the realistic capacity of the United Nations and non-governmental organization partners to implement required actions.

Top personalities expected to join the online even include the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social  Development Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq; Governor of Borno State His Excellency Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum; Governor of Adamawa State His Excellency Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri; Governor of Yobe State His Excellency Mai Mala Buni; United Nations Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator Edward Kallon; United Nations, NGO, and donor representatives

Members of the press are invited to participate in and cover the launch, which will be followed by a briefing and Q&A session with the Government, UN, and NGO leadership. Media participants are to register at the latest by 7 PM on Monday 15 March 2021. All registered media participants are expected to join the event online by 16 March at 1:45 PM.
