Top stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Biu local government area of Borno state have finally broken their silence over the “negative” social media posts that trailed the visit of Governor Babagana Zulum, where it was alleged he was booed by angry residents.
The publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amos Adziba has posted some photos and short clips of hazy videos detailing how the convoy of the governor was booed on the first day of his visit to the historic town.
The Biu APC Stakeholders forum said such social media posts were fake and “a deliberate misrepresentation” of what transpired during the governor’s four days working visit to the town.
Commissioner of Environment, Architect Yerima Saleh, who led a cross-section of Biu local government stakeholders to grant a press conference in Maiduguri on Thursday, Sep. 21, said the social media posts made during the governor’s visit to Biu were fake and contrary to the massive solidarity accorded the governor.
Architect Saleh, a former head of service, said the only thing that could be recalled of the Governor’s visit between Tuesday 13th and Friday 16th September 2023 was the successfully commissioned people-oriented developmental projects and (how the governor) interacted with the people of the LGA across the board.
“It was a visit indeed that had gone memory lane to be reckoned with for a long time in the future. It was a visit that saw the commissioning of projects with direct bearing on the socio-economic advancement of the people of the Local Government Area and its neighbouring communities.
“The visit started by commissioning the 30 Classroom Mega school at Buratai Town after which His Excellency visited a road washout spot along Miringa to Gunda road. His Excellency was welcomed along all routes he followed by a tumultuous turnout of our people both old and young who displayed on their faces unprecedented happiness and display of love to their leader right from the border village of Kamuya through Miringa to the Palace of the Emir of Biu.
“His Excellency was received in high esteem with all the befitting Palace Protocols and paraphernalia by HRH the Emir of Biu Mai Mustafa Umar Mustafa in his Palace.
“During the visit, in addition to the Buratai Mega School newly built Higher Community Islamic School and Projects Monitoring Office both in Biu Metropolis was also commissioned by His Excellency as well as the Community Health Facility in Moringa town. His Excellency also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a Mega Vocational School in Biu making five (5) projects at a go.
Not oblivious of the fast approaching 2023 elections His Excellency met with and interacted with the generality of the people of Bu including non-politicians.
He also met various political groups and brokered peace among supporters with misunderstandings and also received political decampees from the opposition PDP.
His Excellency also discussed issues of development and progress of how to move the LGA forward politically and socio-economically.
At the end of the visit, His Excellency left Biu on Friday to Gombe to attend the just concluded North East Governors Summit via Kwaya Kusar and Bayo LGAs all in Biu Emirate a mission very well accomplished.
Gentleman of the press we invite you to celebrate with us as Elders and APC stakeholders of Biu Local Government Area on a successful working visit by our amiable Governor His Excellency, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.
“We wish therefore to express the profound gratitude of the entire people of
Biu Local Government Area to His Excellency and his esteemed entourage for finding time despite his crowded schedule of engagements to visit the area spending four days with our people.
Before I conclude may I at this juncture condemn in strong terms insinuations and fake news being spread purportedly as otherwise of the successes of His Excellency’s last visit to Biu and the Emirate from entry till departure as works of enemies of peace and progress and as figments of the blurred the imagination of such wicked souls.
It is generally known to all that our people are peace-loving and law-abiding citizens who cherish and value their leaders and respect constituted authorities.”
